Fun night out

Ok, so we went bowling instead of going to a movie, but there really wasn’t anything showing. We had a good time, and probably more fun than we would have had at a movie anyway.

Youth Movie Night

Don’t forget that tonight (Wednesday, August 20) we’re going to have dinner and a movie in Waco. So show up at the church at 5:00 and bring $20.00 and we’ll head off to Waco to have pizza and see a movie. Youth that are going to be in the 6th grade this year are more than welcome! I hope to see you all tonight!

Kids Under Construction

Greetings from your new Kids Under Construction after school program director!  I am so very excited to begin the first year of this program as your new director.  Please allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Nanette Keelin Wyatt.  I am the sister of the one who brings you the very lovely music in the Traditional Worship service on Sunday morning.  I recently joined the church again after having been away for a number of years serving in ministry.  I am very familiar with Hillsboro having moved here in 1969 and recently moving back.  I have some very exciting things planned when the year begins.  School will begin on August 25th, however the first day of Kids Under Construction will be Tuesday, September 2nd beginning at 3:30 p.m.  This year we have expanded the program to five days a week (Monday through Friday) and have begun to charge a fee of $25.00 per week per child.  If anyone is interested in volunteering to help with this program, please let me know.  You may call the church and leave a message for me, call my cell phone at (254) 295-3453, or leave me a post on this website.  I look forward to an exciting year!  Stay tuned for more news and information about the program, its activities, weekly schedule and monthly newsletter called “Blueprints” which will be posted on the Kids Under Construction page when I get it up and going soon!

Reed’s Ramblings August 2, 2008

“Only those who attempt the absurd will achieve the impossible.” How do you feel about that statement? I’ll tell you later who uttered those words. But first, some reflections.

Taken at it’s face value, it would seem to go against the way me most often approach things in life and situations we have to confront. After all, we Methodists hold to the the Four Fold Norm or the Quadrilateral. You know: Scripture, Tradition, Wisdom and finally Reason or our own thoughts. This statement seems to suggest that none of those apply.

Yet there are times when only thinking differently, acting differently or doing differently will suffice. You can’t get different results by doing the same things over and over again.  If you want different results, you have to do things differently. Let me suggest that we as Christians, as a Denomination, as a church and as an individual we may want to think and act at times absurdly in our generation and world.

I know that I am doing all I can.  How about you? Are you willing to be absurd for Christ and His church? Wesley did. So did Luther.

Oh, by the way, the author of the opening quote seemed to think quite differently and see not only the world but the universe differently. He even dabbled with time, atoms, and the very essence of things. The author? Albert Einstein.

Peace and Grace (and where did I put that red nose?) Reed.
