Day 4

So today was hot and there was a lot of work to be done. We finished up on yesterdays site and then moved on to a new one today. We chopped down dead trees, washed windows and two cars. We had an awesome scavenger hunt tonight in Branson. We visited the Fudgery, which was quite fun and tastey. I am very tired and cant wait to hit the bed.

Are We Having Fun!!!!!!!

YES!!!! I cannot believe how much fun this is.  At this moment all of the Hillsboro gang are gathered in the media room blogging!!!!! What fun. We are almost finished with our back ramp. Just need handrails.  The meal tonight, chicken fajitas, salad, you name it they served it.  Snack time, still hot brownies.  I know Nancy has not had this many good meals in a row in her life!  Activities were sports competition and my work team along with Abbey’s were incredible.  We both have perfect 0-4 records.  We rock. Why mess up a good thing.  We are looking forward to another day of fun and I must say, these kids are amazing!  More good kids out there than we ever hear about.  It certainly restores your faith in the future when you see them.

Well, it is worship time so we best get going.

Later,

Karen

First Mission Trip

On the first day of mission trip my team’s project was to put skirting on a mobile home. The work site is in Galena. Jake is also in my group. The owner of the property came and talked to us. She was very grateful. We finished that project in one day.

On the way to our work site we saw a turkey who practically acted like a dog by guarding the house. Today my team went back to the same and added handrails. Lets simply say we’re better at skirtting. Then it was very funny because we had to insert screws but Jake chose to hammer them in. It didn’t go very well despite his efforts. Tonight we played games. We are 4 and 0.

“Team Champions”

WoW! The days just keep getting better. Today we hauled like 100,000 lbs of wood from a man’s house and hauled it off on a trailer. It was kind of intense, but we got the work done. After we got back from the work site and showered we headed to the park to get our game on. My team one all 4 games. We rocked at ultimate frisbee, scored some homeruns in kickball, hooped it up in flicker ball, and smacked it down on the volleyball court. My team dominated today and i am oh so pumped! We are team champions! Man i cant wait for tomorrow, do a some more work and then come back and have my team dominate again. I can’t wait, I am having a blast!

Day 2…Carpe Diem!!!

Well hello again! Just writing to say that things are quite swell here in the hills of Kimberling City. We just returned from a marathon of sporting events, also known as our evening activity. No we will not be able to take additional showers, so we’ll be stinking up our sheets tonight! We played flickerball, kickball, volleyball, and ultimate frisbee. Though my team didn’t do as well as I would have liked (we’ve got a girl with a broken foot and an adult that will have knee surgery Monday), we all had fun and suffered no further injuries. Karen will elaborate. Okay have to run to worship, will write again soon.

God bless,

Abbey

Craig’s Day 2

Today my team hit the work hard on and off the worksite. We dug post-holes for our wheel chair ramp in a vicious manner, and we just got back from playing an amazing medly of games including: ultimate frizbee, and three other games that we lost in. It was a great day. Now it’s time for worship, but we are still super pumped. ttyl

Day One - Complete

Well we all arrived safely on Sunday Evening about 5:45pm. The drive up was good - kids slept, Karen told stories, Jake and Nancy fiddeled with their cell phones/game “thingy”, etc. Of course Jade slept the longest.

I am on Team 1. There are 8 teams here in our living center at Kimberling City UMC. My team is building a wheelchair ramp for a couple, both of which are wheelchair bound. The Campbells live on the James river and back in March, with all the rain, their house was flooded (about 4 feet of water in the house - Hmm shades of “Katrina”). So they are just getting back in their house as it had to be “gutted” and rebuilt.

As usual, the kids are great. Was hoping someone would have a digital camera that we could upload pictures from so you could see what was “happening”, and I think we may have some this evening when we return from the job site.

Keep praying for the operation up here. Safety, good health, and all that stuff.

Until next time….

Warren

Day 1

hey folks! Man what a great first day. I have a super fun work group who had the privilege of fixing a cabinet and painting windows. Sounds like work, but its actually a lot of fun!  A little hot, but not like that Texas heat. I am looking forward to the rest of the week!

1st Missin Trip

Greetings from MO,

Well  we made it to the big and booming metropolis of Kimberling City.  First the van trip was, well a van trip.  Jade sleeping after her exciting trip to Destin, Jake and Nancy huddled over the ipod, Warren and I solving life’s mysteries!!!!!  Actually the trip wasn’t bad except we didn’t think we would ever find a place for lunch.  We were not aware that people in Oklahoma do not believe in convenience stores or fast food places along the interstate.  With only three hours before arriving we finally stopped, (I have no clue as to where) but soon, after a Braums burger, we were off and on the road again.  We rolled into town around 5:32.  Nancy had the closest guess at 5:00, amended (illegally) to 5:22, but close none of the less.  We had a great first night meeting people, getting our teams together and figuring out sleeping arrangements.  Around 11:10  it was lights out.  Up and out of bed by 6:00, breakfast and away we go.  My team and another are grouped together as we are building 2 wheelchair ramps and so far so good.  The kids are great and I must admit the trepidation I felt was unfounded as all is well and I am having a blast.

Thanks to all who helped sponsor and bought groceries.  None of us are going hungry.  I think I may be gaining weight.

 God Bless,

 Karen
